N. Muralikrishnan
N. Muralikrishnan, an accomplished Veena performer and teacher, hails from
Tanjore District in Tamil Nadu, India. His unique style of playing ("His Veena
literally sings..." as many critics write) has attracted several audiences around
the world. For the past twenty five years N.Muralikrishnan has brought and
maintained the Carnatic Veena and keyboard traditions in the United States of
America through his expert interpretation of South Indian Music performance
and teaching at various Universities and to the south Asian communities in the
USA.
N. Muralikrishnan, a child prodigy, studied music from many renowned
teachers in Chennai, India had his advanced Veena training under the |

guidance of Prof R. S. Jayalakshmi. He obtained his solid music background
from several prominent teachers such as Smt. Suguna Varadhachari,
Karaikudi Subramaniam, Parur Venkatrama Iyer, and Dr. N.Ramanathan. He
received his Master's Degree in South Indian music performance from
University of Madras. He received his second Master's degree in Ethnomusicology from San Diego State University and has done PhD work in the field of Ethnomusicology at UCLA.

KUZHALMANNAM G. RAMAKRISHNAN
Born on 25th May 1971 in Kuzhalmannam, Palakkad, Kerala, started learning Mridangam from his father ‘Nadabhushanam’ Sri.K.R.Gopalakrishna Iyer at the age of five. First stage programme at the age of 10 in Chembai festival. 28 years of dedicated service in the field accompanying veteran artists, fusion with other instrumentalists and solo programmes. Kuzhalmannam Ramakrishnan’s name is synonymous with Mridangam (South Indian Percussion Instrument) in the world of music. But he is also a painter, social activist, teacher and a lyricist. More than an artist, he uses his skills in percussion as a catalyst for social change exhalting peace and anti-violence.
